Numbers and Letters is an immersive virtual reality game for developing numeracy and literacy skills. The Numbers part of the game focuses on developing flexible mathematical thinking skills through the use of four basic mathematical operators and adaptive strategies. Players can explore the role of numerical relations and operators in mathematical problem solving. This is achieved in the
game through the exploration of number combinations with a range of operators (subtraction, addition, multiplication and division). The game aims to develop mathematical proficiency through exploration of different problem-solving strategies based on the understanding of key concepts. The game has progressive difficulty modes depending on player ability and includes instructional scaffolding
functionality to provide context specific help to the player when required or requested. The Letters game helps the player improve their literacy skills and become better at spelling by completing words by finding the missing letter.

Game Overview

Players can explore and understand the role of numerical relations and operators in mathematical problem solving. This is achieved in the game through the flexible use and exploration of number combinations and a range of operators (subtraction, addition, multiplication and division) to solve equations of different difficulty levels. Players can develop their adaptive number knowledge skills
and mathematical proficiency through exploring different strategies based on their understanding of key concepts. In the letters part of the game the players complete words by finding the missing letter to improve their spelling.

In the numbers part of the game, the main challenge and goal is to solve equations of different difficulty levels i.e., players are given a target number to achieve and a range of numbers that can be used to achieve the number. There are three different game modes with four difficulty levels. In the letters part of the game the players complete words by finding the missing letter. In this process players can
earn achievements and rank on the leader boards

The game is suitable for all ages 12+.

In the numbers part of the game there are three different game modes (arcade, time trial and survival) with four difficulty levels (baby, easy, medium and hard). For arcade mode, the player has to solve 12 equations in the shortest possible time. The resultant time/score indicates the players skill level. In time trial mode, the player has to solve as many equations as possible in five minutes. The total achieved indicates the players skill. Both these modes have the functionality to skip an equation, but a time penalty is incurred. In survival mode, the player has to solve as many equations as possible without the option to skip. There is a time limit to solve each equation. The letters game has three similar modes and the players learning and skill level is determined in a similar way. Players can earn achievements in both games and can also rank on leader boards to benchmark and assess their skill levels against other players.
