This team-based game is designed for 5, 10, 15, or 20 players, with 1 Red player for every 4 Blue players. The gameplay revolves around attacking or defending infrastructure sectors, with players working together to achieve their team’s objectives.

As the blue team, your goal is to defend your facilities while reducing the remaining time left in the game to capture the red player(s).

Meanwhile, the red team’s objective is to bring down the blue team’s facilities and sectors through cyber-attacks and trigger the Doom Clock by bringing key sectors offline.

Game Overview

Sector Down is a digital card game designed to educate players about cybersecurity by simulating real-world cyberattacks. Players will learn about the terminology, methods of cyber defense and attack, as well as how to best cooperate with other entities to repel coordinated strikes and natural disasters on essential infrastructure.

The challenge comes in using the playable cards to attack, fortify, weaken, or reinforce the infrastructure and sectors to win the game. You must decide where your priorities best lie, and how to adapt to random events.

The primary audience is intended to be the workers (18-year-olds and up) in the industries (sectors) that the game contains, to provide a simplified context for cyber-attacks for people who don’t specialize in cybersecurity or fully understand how the attacks could affect their industry.

Sector Down tests the performance of the players through their success in-game, as well as their coordination with the players on their team. They are expected to discuss what kind of cards they have, who needs workers donated to them (for the blue team), and which player is the most vulnerable.

If the red team wins, the attackers have succeeded in sabotaging infrastructure. If the blue team wins, they catch the attackers by stalling them out long enough. Afterwards everyone can discuss what happened in the game and how the scenario might play out in a real-world setting.
