CorrSim is a single-player, turn-based, computer simulation intended to teach students the environmental factors that cause corrosion on man-made structures, the consequences on the economy and what can be done to protect the aforementioned structures. The stages of material degradation, visually represented by graphics and animations, are correlated with the in-game structures’ capacity to earn virtual money, which the user can accumulate and spend to build more structures. The user should make optimal choices from various corrosion protection methods based on cost and durability.

Game Overview

The environmental factors that cause corrosion on man-made structures, the consequences of corrosion on the economy, and the basic corrosion-mitigation technologies available.

To complete the four industrial structures in the least number of turns, through making cost-efficient decisions in maintaining the structures and optimizing their earning capability.

The game is intended to be played mainly by middle school and high school students, and aims to introduce materials engineering, chemical engineering and corrosion engineering and get them to consider related professions in the future.

The skills are measured according to the player’s in-game earnings and the state of degradation of his standing structures through every turn.
